Kamal Mouzawak, the son of farmers and producers, grew up in gardens and kitchens, tasting life, food and land fruits at their source before creating Beirut’s first farmers’ market, Souk El Tayeb. The market works to preserves food traditions and the culture of sustainable agriculture in Lebanon.

Kamal is working to protect the interests of local small farmers and producers in Lebanon, enabling them to sell their products directly at the market. After majoring in Graphic Design, Kamal followed the path of food and travel writing, Macrobiotic cooking teacher, healthy cooking TV chef and more that led to being a member of the Slow Food foundation for Biodiversity Board and after being named New Hero by Monocle Magazine. Since the beginning, Souk El Tayeb had the vision of celebrating food and traditions that unite communities and promote small-scale farmers, producers and the culture of sustainable agriculture.

In 2009 Kamal was named Arab World Social Innovator and today, Souk El Tayeb is an institution which includes a weekly farmers market, five farmer’s kitchens located throughout Beirut and lots more…
